We offer dry-land clinics covering a variety of paddlesports topics suitable for all experience levels!

Clinic begin on the hour at various locations around the festival site - pick up a map at Festival headquarters and/or check the schedule for last minute changes!

In addition, we offer 1 hour on-water clinics that will teach you the basics of kayaking or SUP.

You are likely to get wet, so bring a change of clothes and leave electronics on shore! Kids under 18 are welcome if accompanied by an adult.

You know you want a kayak or SUP of your very own, but you have no idea how you're going to get it around town!  Yes, kayaks are heavy, but trust us, millions of people (old, young, big, little, tall, and short) have put kayaks on hundreds of car models!  There IS A SOLUTION!  This clinic will show you many different solutions to many differnt problems.  You can also stop by the THULE RACKS booth or MALONE RACKS & MICROTRAILERS booth anytime to find out more!

 

Try out a wide range of kayaks of every type, SUPs, and paddles!  Industry experts will help you understand the differences and which items are best suited for your intended purposes.  We recommend attending some of the dry-land and on-water clinics to learn more!  Kids are welcome, but children under 18 MUST BE SUPERVISED by a parent at all times.  Lifeguards are NOT on duty and Paddlefest staff have other duties.  You WILL get wet!  Please bring a change of clothes and leave your car keys, cell phones, etc. someplace safe!  Paddlefest headquaters can keep small items safe and dry for you.

 

 

Kayak fishing has become incredibly popular in the last few years because it's easy, affordable, and suited to almost any body of water!  Fishermen and women love their gear, but you don't need much to get started!  .Learn a few, simple and inexpensive tricks for managing your fishing gear and your catch,no matter what type of kayak you have!  Don't have a kayak yet?  This clinic will help you choose one!

 

 

Most beginners focus on price when buying their first paddle - and then quickly upgrade.  Learn how important the paddle is in your enjoyment of the sport and how to avoid making a purchase that doesn't suit your needs.  You'll learn how to evaluate construction materials, blade size and shape, and paddle length when selecting a kayak paddle to meet your needs.  Bring your questions about other kayaking essentials like PFDs, seats, and safety gear!

Race?  Find out what you should be looking for in a board and narrow your choices!

Sit-on-top? Sea kayak?  Tandem? Single? Long? Short? Wide? Narrow? The choices are seemingly endless and it can be difficult for a beginner to know what factors are important to consider when selecting the perfect kayak to suit their needs.  Online information is confusing and who knows if it's unbiased information you can trust, or manufacturers propaganda.  Join experienced local kayakers and industry experts to help you sort through the choices so you don't make a costly mistake!

Stand Up Paddleboarding is a fun and fantastic full-body exercise!  Like exercising on a balance ball, you'll find leg and core muscles all get a workout just in the act of staying balanced!  You'll learn to use your body properly to get the best core workout and to prevent injury.  You'll also learn how easy it is to throw in a few yoga or pilates moves during your outings.  Aside from being an enjoyable outdoor activity, you can make each and every SUP outing into a combined yoga, pilates, and cardio workout without ever going near a sweaty, boring gym!

A hands-on  introduction to Stand Up Paddleboarding!  You'll learn the basics of board design, balance, and proper body mechanics for maximum efficiency.  By the end of the session you'll understand basic propulsion and steering strategies as well as simple safety guidelines.  Kids over 15 are welcome.   We also recommend the dry-land clinic "Choosing a SUP" if you're just getting started!

 

Join industry experts to learn how to dress for year-round comfort!  You'll learn what you need for protection and comfort in sun and heat, wind, and cold!  Paddlers from all over the world would kill for our year-round perfect paddling climate!  The worst winter day in San Diego still beats a lot of summer days in other parts of the country, so why hang up your paddle just because the water is a little cooler?  Winter paddling in San Diego is outstanding and we practically have the water to ourselves once the tourists go home.  If you have plans (or just dreams) of paddling trips in other places, learn what you'll need to paddle almost anywhere!

Learn what kind of paddlecraft will suit your and your canine companion(s), how to keep your pup safe, and how to introduce pooch to paddling!  A professional dog trainer will show you how to use positive reinforcement techniques to make your pups first (and every) paddling adventure fun and rewarding.  Your leashed dog is welcome at Campland On The Bay ("bully" breeds excluded), or simply watch our demonstration dog in action!  This is a dry-land clinic.

Paddlesports of all kinds are perfect family activities!  There's nothing like an exciting outdoor adventure on the water to bring the family together and create lasting memories for your kids.  Learn about kayaks, canoes, and SUPs designed specifically for families and kids.  Get tips for keeping kids of all ages engaged and happy and what you can expect from them at different ages.  Kids as young as a year will enjoy being rocked to sleep in your lap as you paddle a kayak or canoe.  Young children will enjoy riding on your SUP, or tandem canoe or kayak as mom and dad get an evening workout.  As they get older and want to try it "on their own", you'll want to get kid-sized equipment for them to keep them safe and having fun.  Bring the family to this dry-land session and experiment with the best solutions for your gang!
